This poem tells a little bit about me

Where I Am From

I am from a white brick house

From a broken oven and well-loved pans

I am from Sunday morning pancakes

And Monday night dinners at Nona’s house

Where there is fresh caprese first

and bitter espresso last

I am from rich morning coffee

From afternoon Chai tea lattes

They both always make my mom smile

I am from home made brownies for bake sales

And orange slices at soccer game halftimes

I am from dolmades and spanakopita

From fresh feta on crisp cucumber salads

And sweet baklava from Yiayia’s kitchen

Made in the same style as her mother before her

And likely me after her

I am from the Land of Enchantment

And roots that stem from many different places

Nona, Zia and Zio from Vincenza

Yiayia, Thea and theios from Thessaloniki

Grandpa from New York

Many cultures come together to make one me
